Types of Joints

"Main 4"
1. Hinge - (elbows and knees) move in one direction only
2. Ball and Socket - (hips and shoulders) move in all directions, allowing rotation
3. Pivot - (between the neck and head) moves from side to side and up and down (allows limited rotation)
4. Gliding - (wrists and ankles or carpals and tarsals) enable bones to slide over one another
